Privacy Policy
This policy explains what Petwidge ("we," "us") collects, why, and the choices you have. It applies to the Petwidge website, iOS app, and widgets.
What we process
- Photos you choose. When you create a pet, the single photo you pick (or capture) is used to generate your pixel sprite and is saved locally with that pet so it can appear in the app and prepare its widget backdrop. You decide which photo, each time.
- Hints and refinement notes. Optional text you enter about your pet is used only to guide that pet's pixel-art generation.
- Limited technical data. To keep the free service running fairly and to prevent abuse, our processing service may handle basic device and diagnostic identifiers (for example, to apply daily rate limits). This is used for app functionality and abuse prevention only.
- Website messages and launch notifications. If you use the support form, we process the name, email address, and message you submit so we can reply. If you request a launch notification, we process your email address only to send Petwidge launch updates.
- Optional location — only for the Weather widget. The Weather widget is off by default. If you turn it on in Settings, Petwidge asks for your approximate location to fetch the local forecast (via the Open-Meteo weather service). It is used only to show weather beside your pet — never stored on our servers, never linked to you, and never used for advertising or tracking. You can turn it off (and revoke the permission) anytime.
- No app account, no contacts, no ad identifiers. The Petwidge app has no account sign-up. We don't access your contacts and we don't use third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.
Website forms
Website form submissions pass through Vercel for hosting and bot-abuse prevention, then through Web3Forms for spam screening and email delivery. We use the details you submit only to respond to your request, send the launch notification you requested, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations. We do not sell this information or use it for unrelated advertising. See the Vercel Privacy Notice and Web3Forms Privacy Policy.
We keep messages and notification requests only as long as reasonably needed for those purposes. You can ask us to delete your submitted information at any time.
How your photo is handled
- Your photo and any optional hints or refinement notes are transmitted over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to our processing service, which forwards them to Google's Gemini API to generate the sprite.
- The finished pixel sprite is returned to your device and stored locally on your device.
- We do not retain your original photo on our servers after the sprite has been generated.
- We do not use your photos to train machine-learning models, and we do not sell or share them for advertising.
- Google processes the image as a service provider under their own terms. See the Google Gemini API terms. We send Google only the photo, optional notes you provide, and the generation instructions needed to make your sprite.
Before your first creation, Petwidge shows a consent screen naming Google Gemini and explaining what is sent to create your pet. Generation only happens after you agree and confirm that you are 18 or older.
What lives on your device
Your original selected photo, generated sprites, pet names, and related details are stored on your device and in a private app group shared with the Petwidge widgets so your pet can appear on your Home Screen, Lock Screen, and Dynamic Island. The original photo leaves your device only for the disclosed Gemini generation request. Deleting that pet removes its local photo and generated assets.
Your choices
- Delete a pet any time from inside the app to remove its saved sprite from your device and widgets.
- Delete the app to remove all locally stored Petwidge data from your device.
- Report content or ask a question by emailing hello@petwidge.com.
Children
Petwidge's AI creation feature is intended only for adults age 18 and older. You must confirm that you are at least 18 before a generation request can be made. If you believe a minor has provided us a photo or other information, contact us and we will help.
Security
Photos are sent over encrypted connections. Because creation is on-demand and transient on our side, there is no long-term photo store to breach. No method of transmission is ever 100% secure, but we work to protect the limited data we handle.
Changes
If we update this policy we'll revise the date above and, for material changes, surface a notice in the app. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
